We are a family owned company who believe passionately in the sustainable future of rural Australia .

Our investment into Dorpers is as a direct result of our belief that the Dorper breed, with its unique qualities, has the ability to serve as catalyst increasing the profitability and long-term viability of Australian sheep farmers and graziers.

Our company ethos is to seek a business edge or ‘ point of difference’ in whatever we do.

Through investing in leading genetics and technology, consultancy and by the application of Industry Best Practise, we seek to pass this business advantage on to our clients.

Stud principal, John Mackay has had many years of experience in the sheep industry. Both in wool production in Western Queensland, and fat lambs in Tasmania . His previous stud sheep involvement was as partner in one of Australia ’s oldest Border Leister studs, established at Mill Farm NW Tasmania in 1911.

Newstead Dorper is dually registered in South Africa and Australia .

Our stud sheep are classed by South African Assessors.

We use Lamb Plan in conjunction with HERDMASTER to maintain breeding and production records of the highest standard.

All our Embryo Transfer lambs are DNA typed to ensure the integrity of their family lines.

Newstead will travel to South Africa later this year as part of our ongoing commitment to source the best genetics in the world.

We are able to testify that dorper and dorper cross lambs will outperform other breeds in the feedlot.

Dorper carcases are actively sought by meat buyers and are recognised for their superior meat eating quality by consumers.
